    How to get here

    Hacienda Caño Negro Wildlife Sanctuary is a 2-hour scenic drive through the northern lowlands of Costa Rica and it transports you to the precious wetlands and home to a diversity of wildlife in the peacefulness of the sanctuary.

    From Volcano Arenal, you take the road to Muelle Arenal and then you will drive north towards the border.  Just about 8km before reaching the town of Los Chiles you will turn left and into the serenity of this delicate ecosystem.

    If you are coming from Guanacaste, in Liberia take the turnoff to Upala that will take you through the Guanacaste Volcanic Range onto the northern lowlands.  Pass through Upala and drive towards the town of Colonia Puntarenas and at the local store called Agrocolos, take a left onto a gravel road that will take you to Hacienda Caño Negro.

    Our recommendation: Combine your stay in Caño Negro with a stay right on the beach called Beautiful Beach (Playa Hermosa) in Bosque del Mar Hotel. Just steps from the beach, Bosque del Mar is nestled into tropical gardens and boast spacious and well-appointed suites.  Sit back and enjoy the sea breeze with a cocktail. You deserve it!
